Bring Mom to McGrath’s Irish Ale House this Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is almost here. How are you going to show your mom you care this year? Consider bringing mom to McGrath’s Irish Ale House this Mother’s Day.

The second Sunday in May is Mother’s Day. This holiday has roots all the way back to ancient times. Greeks and Romans held festivals in honor of mother goddesses, such as Rhea and Cybele. A little later, Christian festivals were held called “Mothering Sunday.” Mothering Sunday took place during the fourth Sunday of Lent. What started as special services evolved into gift-giving from children to their mothers.

By 1908, Mother’s Day as we know it was celebrated. Anna Jarvis, who lost her mother in 1905, was a force behind the holiday. She encouraged the name of the holiday to be “Mother’s Day,” rather than “Mothers Day” to have the focus be on each individual family’s mother. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson passed a law that declared Mother’s Day an official national holiday.

Today, nearly $23 billion is spent on Mother’s Day gifts, flowers, cards, and dinners each year in the U.S. Being a mother is a 24/7 job. There’s no days off when you’re a mom, but caring and loving children make every day worth it. To show your mom you care this Mother’s Day, consider treating her to a meal from McGrath’s Irish Ale House.
